15 lakh trees to be cut at 17 places in Rajasthan, INTACH writes 5100 postcards to PM Modi

Bhilwara. In a major step towards environment conservation in the country, the Indian Cultural Fund (INTACH) Bhilwara chapter has sent 5100 postcards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding to stop the felling of lakhs of trees in forest land for setting up pump storage power plants at 17 places in Rajasthan. A brainstorming session on the issue was held at CA Dilip Goyal's residence in Vaibhav Nagar, where the problem was discussed in detail.
Babulal Jaju, convenor of INTACH, said that with the permission of the central government to set up power plants in forest land at 17 places including Sirohi, Chittor, Dholpur, Karauli, Bundi, Tonk and Shahbad in Rajasthan, about 15 lakh trees will be cut. This decision is not only environmentally harmful but will have serious implications on biodiversity, wildlife and ecosystem.
INTACH Bhilwara chapter member Guman Singh Pipada and CA Dilip Goyal informed that the youth, aware citizens and members of INTACH have written 5100 postcards and appealed to the Prime Minister that the power plant should be set up on vacant or unusable land instead of forest land. INTACH plans to send a total of 51,000 postcards from across the state to the Prime Minister.
The INTACH office bearers and members present in the seminar expressed their views that felling of lakhs of giant trees would cause environmental imbalance. As a result, the habitat of wildlife and birds will be destroyed, leading to a huge loss of biodiversity.
On this occasion, office bearers Sandeep Porwal, Mukesh Ajmera, Vidyasagar Surana, Suresh Surana, Rajkumar Booliya, Harak Lal Bishnoi, Rakesh Bamb, Bileshwar Dad, Gaurav Jaju, Shashank Goyal, Anugrah Lohia expressed their views that the cutting of millions of huge trees is dangerous for the environment.
Experts expressed concern that the felling of lakhs of trees in Shahbad and other places would destroy biodiversity. This step will not only exacerbate the environmental crisis, but also accelerate climate change. Loss of habitat for wildlife and birds will have a negative impact on the local ecosystem. INTACH has requested the government to use the vacant barren and unusable land instead of using forest land for the power plant. This will help reduce environmental pollution. The campaign is getting support from local youth and environmentalists. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Harpreet singh Happy Mundian, Hardeep Singh Mundian, Pal singh grewal, Inderpal singh grewal, Harvinder kumar pappi (block president), Mandeep singh Sahnewal, Harpreet kaur grewal, Shingara singh mangli, Kamal Sharma, Manpreet singh Dheri, kamaljit singh Bhatti, Manpreet singh Sports coach, Sunita Tezaniya, Surinder chaudhry, Harvinder Mundian, besides several others. This campaign launched by INTACH is a significant effort towards environmental conservation and saving biodiversity. In view of the serious consequences of the felling of lakhs of trees, it is necessary that the government should reconsider this decision. This initiative of INTACH will help in raising awareness on environmental issues and move towards a sustainable solution.
